The seminar is structured around three fundamental areas: the musical materials used, the analytical processes applied to the works studied, and the harmonization procedures developed throughout the session.
The first area focuses on the materials, which include both traditional songs and original compositions created by the instructor or by the students themselves. Traditional songs serve as a starting point for exploring melodic and rhythmic structures that are well established in collective musical practice, while original pieces allow participants to experiment with creative solutions and adapt the content to the specific needs of the group.
The second area addresses analytical processes, with particular emphasis on melodic and rhythmic analysis. Melodic analysis focuses on contours, intervals, motifs, and phrase articulation, seeking to understand how the melodic line is organized and communicates. Rhythmic analysis examines patterns, accents, subdivisions, and metric relationships, enabling participants to develop a more conscious perception of the pulse and the temporal structure of the works.
The third area is dedicated to harmonization processes, exploring different approaches to harmonizing a given bass line or melody. Strategies will be studied ranging from the functional application of chords to freer solutions, always considering the relationship between melody, bass, and harmonic texture. The goal is to equip participants with the skills to construct coherent, expressive accompaniments appropriate to the style of the pieces being studied.

Students may take part in the SIPO Junior Competition 2026. In addition to the repertoire chosen by the student, the best interpretation of the Sonata in A minor by the Portuguese composer Carlos Seixas (1704–1742) will be awarded a free registration for the SIPO Master Classes 2026.

The VII Sipo Junior 2025 Sessions are organized by ACIM with the support of the Óbidos City Council.

They will take place from April 9 to 12, 2025, in Óbidos.
It is a Music Education project with two components – Piano Master Classes and a “Sight-Reading” Seminar, led by Professor Dana Radu.
There will be commented concerts by the teachers and one recital by the students participating in the piano master classes.

The number of participants is limited. Registration is open until March 29, 2026.
Registration must be completed via the online form. Your registration will only be validated after the payment has been duly confirmed.
Payments by cheque are not accepted. If your registration is cancelled due to lack of available places, your payment will be refunded in full.
In the event that it is not possible to carry out the planned programme due to force majeure circumstances, the registration fees will be fully refunded.

I. Enrolment
1.1 – The enrolment form must be sent along with the bank transfer receipt (PT50 0035 0543 0000 3888 830 23) to the Association of International Music Courses (ACIM), pianobidos@gmail.com in the total amount of the enrolment.
1.2 – The maximum number of enrolments for the realization of master classes is 10 participating students, with no limit for listeners. In the case of enrolments received after reaching the maximum number of vacancies, the organization will reimburse payments made.
II. Operational issues
2.1 – Professor Manuela Gouveia is in charge of the artistic direction of SIPO.
2.2 – The master classes will be held in Óbidos, at the municipal auditorium of Óbidos.
2.3 – The master classes will take place at the dates indicated and according to the pre-established time schedules between ACIM and the students.
2.4 – Within the set time the teacher will organize the class.
2.5 – Accommodation, breakfast and lunch will be the responsibility of each student.
2.6 – Participants and listeners who participate in all activities will receive a certificate attesting their participation in the master classes.
2.7 – The participants have the possibility to perform in the final concerts of the master classes according to the indications of the teachers.
2.8 – The registration includes 2 individual classes with each teacher of the faculty.
2.9 – Participants must bring clean and reliable source scores from the works they intend to work with the teacher.
2.10 – Participants are entitled to 1 hour of study per day.
2.11 – Participants that cause material damage to the facilities where master classes take place or to other materials will have to assume the responsibility. If they are minors, their guardians will be made responsible. 2.12 – Master class participants are entitled to free entrance to the concerts.
III. Final dispositions
3.1 – Enrolment in the master classes presupposes the full acceptance of this regulation.
3.2 – The organization reserves the right to record sound, images or video of the activities of the master classes, so that the participants, when registering, waive any rights to such recordings.
