Luiz de Moura Castro, born in Rio de Janeiro, gave his first concert in this city at the age of 9 in the Teatro Municipal. He accomplished his music studies at the National Music School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (summa cum laude), the Music Academy Lorenzo Fernandez, Rio de Janeiro, and the Liszt Academy, Budapest.
He has played with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Orquestra da Rádio de Lisboa, the Filarmonichi di Turino, the orchestras from Bratislava & Janacek, the Yaroslav Symphony Orchestra (Russia), the symphonic orchestras of Dallas, Fort Worth, Hartford and Syracuse, the Parabobo Orquestra de Venezuela, and all major Brazilian orchestras.
He gave recitals at the Piccolo Scala – Milano, Teatro Ghione – Roma, Salle Gaveau – Paris, Palau de la Musica – Barcelona, Rubinstein Hall – St.Petersburg Academy, and Merkin Hall of the Metropolitan Museum – New York. In 1998, Lilli Kraus invited him to teach at the Texas Christian University, Fort Worth. He is also a guest professor at the Catholic University, Washington, D.C. and at the Pro Arte Seminários de Música, Rio de Janeiro.
