Luíza da Gama Santos

Luiza da Gama Santos was born in Caldas da Raínha where she began, at the age of six, her studies with Adelaide Pereira, disciple of Vianna da Motta. Completed the Piano Course of the Conservatory of Lisbon in the class of Professor Campos Coelho.

During his life devoted intensely to teaching – holds the Diploma of Education and Didactics Method Edgar Willems Method -s he held teaching duties in Lisbon at the Beiral School, the Academy of Music Amateurs and, finally, at the Gregorian Institute of Lisbon. As part of her responsibilities within the Fédération Internationale Willems, she represented Portugal at international congresses and internships in France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

With João Pinheiro she formed the team responsible for “Musical Moments”, an activity of Acarte (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation) aimed at children.

Member of the Board of the Portuguese Association of Music Education (APEM).

With Ignez Mazoni published the unpublished song book “Cantigas para Criança” (Portugalmundo Publisher) and collaborated with Ana Maria Ferrão and Paulo Ferreira Rodrigues in the book “Sementes de Música” (Gulbenkian Foundation, Editora Caminho).

As for the piano aspect, she worked under the guidance of Helena Moreira de Sá e Costa, which allowed her to broaden and deepen the piano repertoire.

Attended chamber music master classes with Tibor Varga and benefited from the advice of Maria Christina Lino Pimentel, Nuno Vieira de Almeida, Désiré N’Kaoua and Dominique Merlet (France).

In the 1980s she collaborated intensely with the flutist Carlos Franco (Goethe Institut, Portuguese Authors Society, S. Lourenço Cultural Center, recital in the Adagio RTP program, etc.).

She currently collaborates regularly with the baritone Armando Possante, namely in recitals performed for Antena 2, at the festivals of Póvoa do Varzim, Summer Music (Esposende), Eborae Musica, S. Roque and also at the “International Óbidos Piano Week”.
